COMMUNITY
We know mining has an important role to play in the socioeconomic development and health of families, communities, regions, and countries. An integral part of Cordoba’s approach to exploration and development is to identify ways for local communities and businesses to benefit from Cordoba projects in their regions. This can include providing training and development opportunities, employment, access to health care and other social services and support, and improving local infrastructures.

Local Employment
Today, more than 40% of employees at the Project are from local communities, which are approximately 850 jobs. Our employment policy ensures priorities are given to the local work force. We are also working to identify and understand local capacity—of individuals and businesses—so we can deliver education, training and upskills development to ensure a job-ready local workforce and supplier base as the project moves into construction and operation.
The Alacran Project anticipates to generate approximately 1,700 in Puerto Libertador region for construction stage, and approximately 475 jobs during operation stage.

Local capacity building
In 2022, Cordoba has formed alliance with Colombian National Learning Service institute (SENA) to carry out education and training programs that are dedicated to upskilling and capacity building for the local communities in the municipality of Puerto Libertador.
Our programs extend beyond mining specific skills, and focus on skill upgrades that would support income generation for the rural residents, such as trainings in agricultural, livestock, and agro-industrial activities. Nearly 500 community members have benefited from the training programs, and obtained relevant certifications.
Community investment to date
Cordoba has invested approximately $3.6 million in social programs and support for the communities within the area of influence, as well as neighboring regions. Our initiatives have benefited approximately 3,500 individuals. This investment has included:

community support
- Community support projects including health care, road, school, and athletic facility improvements, material provision for community sewers, capital for pig farming, construction of playgrounds, support for local sports teams, and the purchase of essential community equipment.
- Workshops to strengthen Community Action Boards that foster leadership and enhance local governance.
- Training programs in first aid, environmental management, dressmaking, food handling, and Phytosanitary Management for cacao farming, and capacity building for sustainable livelihoods.
By investing in social and community investment initiatives, and promoting alternative and sustainable agricultural activities, Cordoba is dedicated to help strengthen the local community production chain and reduce the dependence on traditional agricultural and economic activities.
